Not a faithful adaptation. The source material may not be Shakespeare but I have enjoyed the books so far. The same can't be said for the anime. The full series is not out in the U.S. (up to episode 9) so it might get better but I will stop watching. The defeat of the pirate Goaz and his fleet was what propelled Liam Sera Banfield (main character) to prominence in the Empire but it was one battle. The main reason for this was that he did it with only his forces and no support. So adding the "mistake" of sending him to the imperial army's training grounds seemed detrimental to the overall story. It also made Liam seem more of a fool with how it was done. I get why the writers may have felt it necessary to make a treasure planet vice what happened in the books but that episode was also extraneous I felt it was worse than the original story line. Which begs the question why would you do it? Why would you do that before Goaz's defeat? While Tia's torture at Goaz's hand was most definitely horrific did we need to see it in such detail? This adaptation is an interesting mess in what it chose to leave in, what it added and what it removed. Almost as if every time the writers had a choice they chose poorly.
